Clayton: Mansfield defeat keeps Rovers grounded

4 September 2022

Rovers captain Adam Clayton believes defeat to promotion rivals Mansfield Town keeps the squads' feet on the ground as the unbeaten run comes to an end.

Clayton gave credit to Mansfield for their pressing and thinks the defeat can be used as a positive wake-up call after a good start to the campaign.

He said: “I thought Mansfield were good at keeping us trapped in our half and they were sharper. We will improve from the game and come back stronger.

“We have probably played worse and won games this season. We created some good chances through George Miller and Kyle Hurst who hit the post early in the second-half.

“We have some good characters in the team and we take it on the chin. We don’t get carried away when we win and we do the same when we lose.

“A defeat can be a good thing to keep us grounded and provide us a clip round the head. We will turn it into a positive and pull our socks up and go again.”

Rovers’ 3-1 defeat was the club’s first loss in seven Sky Bet League Two games.

He said: “We have played some tough opponents to date, and we’ve done well, but we are not going to win every game this season.

“For our first block of seven games we have had a good start, so we are not going to get too down but we have a now week to put it right on the training ground.”
