Knoyle backs Rovers to grow through adversity

18 September 2022

Kyle Knoyle is confident Rovers will emerge from the run of disappointing performances as an even stronger side.

Defeat to Swindon Town on Saturday was the third in a row for Rovers, who struggled to get going throughout.

Knoyle says improvement across the team is vital but expects the mental strength of the group to increase through adversity,

On how the game played out:

“It was disappointing. A disappointing result. It wasn’t like us.

“They had a lot of the ball but it felt comfortable. They didn’t threaten much. But they got the goal they looked the more likely to get.”

On the goal:

“At those moments you’ve just got to show more composure as a defender. It’s something we’ll look back on during the week and get better at.”

On the downturn in attacking performances:

“It’s just a bit of a rut or a blip. Things aren’t falling our way for us but that also comes from ourselves and our performances.

“We just need to get back on and get better.

“It’s the same side from a fortnight ago. These things happen in football. It’s not always going to be smooth or easy, You have to go through these spells as a team.

“It’ll help us become a stronger side.

“You saw at the start of the season - it was dramatic at times but still the same team.”

On players receiving criticism:

“It’s a results business and we need to win games.

“As a player, when you’re on the pitch it’s your responsibility to carry out a game plan and give everything you can for the club and the shirt.

“If you’ve not done that and the manager decides to tell you about it, you’ve got to take it. It’s part of the job.”

On his own form:

“I’m very critical of myself and I know how good I can be. I still feel like I’ve got a lot more to show with my performances out on the pitch.

“It’s tricky because I didn’t have the pre-season but I’ve been building my fitness up.

“I’ve been happy with how I’ve been playing but I know I can be better going forward and try to contribute more.

“I feel like at the back end of last season I got my flow for it and started chipping in a few goals and assists.

“It’s about getting back to that.”
