Rovers set for more experience in Papa John's Trophy trip to Lincoln City

20 September 2022

Gary McSheffrey says his Rovers side for tonight’s Papa John’s Trophy tie with Lincoln City will have a more experienced feel than the first group game.

McSheffrey fielded several youngsters in the clash with Newcastle United U21 last month but is set to hand match minutes to the likes of Joseph Olowu as he continues his recovery from injury.

“There are bodies back that need minutes so we’ll look quite strong with some personnel,” McSheffrey said.

“There will still be a couple of youngsters involved. Some have gone out on loan so they won’t be involved.

“We’ll give valuable minutes to those that need it and we’ll probably have a stronger bench in case we need to make impact changes.

“Some of the lads won’t be capable of 90 minutes just yet. They will get 45 minutes to an hour. We’ll treat the game in that way.”

Tonight’s hosts Lincoln top Northern Group E having beaten Barnsley 3-0 in their opening match in the competition. Rovers sit second in the standings after claiming the bonus point following their draw with Newcastle U21.
