McSheffrey wants a reaction against Swindon

15 September 2022

Rovers boss Gary McSheffrey is looking for a reaction from his side as Swindon Town visit the Eco-Power Stadium.

McSheffrey’s side have suffered back-to-back defeats against Mansfield Town and Barrow, but the Rovers boss is looking at the bigger picture.

He said: “If the lads let the defeats get in their heads then it can derail the good start we have had. Two defeats in eight league games is not a disaster in the bigger picture.

“It’s down to how the lads react now. We want a response against Swindon and the lads need to be stronger to make sure fear and a lack of confidence doesn’t creep in.

“We have to be confident. We have men in the dressing room who have played a lot of games in their career. The Barrow result was a wake-up call that shows that no game is going to be easy and they need to keep their standards high.”

Swindon are 11th in Sky Bet League Two having won two, drawn five and lost one of their first eight games in the division.

He added: “Swindon are a good footballing team who like to dominate possession. Since they lost heavily on the opening day of the season, they have only lost a cup game, and are unbeaten in the league.

“They are good at opening teams up and have added a good striker in Luke Jephcott. We have to come up with a plan on how we can counteract that.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Swindon are up at the top end of the table for all of the season. They have threats in pace with five or six footballers who can control the game at this level.”
