Molyneux excited at reunion with former club Hartlepool United

9 September 2022

Luke Molyneux is eying his reunion with former club Hartlepool United as the ideal time to grab his first Rovers goal.

The forward has been finding his feet with Rovers since his injury-delayed debut for the club and feels he is close to hitting his full stride as he prepares for a return to his native north east.

On facing his former club:

“It’ll be good to go back to the Vic and see all the fans and a lot of the lads who were there when I was.

“I’m looking forward to it and it was the first fixture I looked for.

“I’m not sure what the reaction is going to be or what sort of welcome I’ll get. I hope it’s good but it could go either way.

“I still keep in contact with quite a few of the lads and I speak to the captain every other day.

“We were a close group when I was there.”

On Hartlepool’s start to the season:

“The manager has brought in a lot of new players so it can take time to gel.

“That could be the reason but I’m not really sure why they’ve struggled so far.”

On Rovers gelling quickly:

“In training every day, everyone is working hard. Everyone knows their own jobs, on and off the pitch.

“The changing room is really good as well. Everyone gets on. That’s a big part of it.

“The results as well - once we got the first good result it was about building on it and we’ve done that really well.”

On the mood in the camp following the first defeat of the season:

“It was just normal really.

“Coming off the back of a defeat, it’s going to happen at some point in the season. It’s a setback for us but it hasn’t changed anything. We’re still confident, we still know what we’re capable of and we just need to bounce back with a win.”

On finding his feet with Rovers:

“Missing some of pre-season, it’s been a bit of an ask finding that sharpness but I feel like I’m slowly getting that back.

“I feel like the only way to get it back is to get more minutes,

“I’m looking forward to the weekend and hopefully I can get my first goal.

“It was similar last season where it was quite a few games in before I got my first goal but once I did, it was lift off really and I found momentum and confidence.”
