Rowe: the game got away from us

14 September 2022

Tommy Rowe says Rovers let the game get away from them after being beaten by Barrow in Sky Bet League Two.

After a bright start from the visitors, goals from Ben Whitfield and Tyrell Warren inflicted Rovers’ first defeat on the road this season.

On the game becoming too open:

“It was a difficult night for us, we felt in control early on but that means nothing when you come away having lost in the way we did.

“Football is ruthless and if you don’t take your chances then you’ll be punished, we didn’t have many but there was a couple in the first half and if we take them then the game looks different.

“It was end-to-end at times and we didn’t want that, we wanted to be in control but they are a good side and made it tough for us."

On not taking things for granted:

“We didn’t create enough overall to really hurt them, that extra pass was lacking whereas we’ve had that in the majority of games this season.

“We knew what we were going to come up against, enough of us are experienced at this level to be able to deal with the challenges of this division.

“There were no surprises in terms of how they play, they were good on the counter and hurt us when it really counted.”
