First-year scholar Max Adamson was over the moon to mark his return from injury with two goals in the youth team’s comeback win over Lincoln City.

The 17-year-old’s brace helped to turn the game around in the final ten minutes of play as defender Will Flint also turned home at the Hoober Homes Elite Performance Centre.

Having not featured for Rovers U18s since early February, Adamson couldn’t hide his delight at helping his team to victory after coming on as a second-half substitute.

He said: “It feels really good to be honest after such a long time out injured and personally I really needed that to boost my confidence because although you always back yourself, you never know how it’s going to be when you finally get back out there.

“Hopefully I can kick on with that now because we’ve got three games left, we’re in a really good position and I want to be successful with this team.

“I’ve been watching every week from the side-lines and I’ve seen how Jack Goodman’s scored for us, so to be back and to slot into that gap he left, it’s great because I think we’ve missed that figure up front.

“I’ve been itching to get back in the team and when I was sat on the bench at 2-0 down, I felt like we needed someone who can go and score and I thought I was the person to do that.

“Thankfully I’ve come on and I’ve shown that I still know where the goal is so it feels really good.”

The result sees the youth team record a third late 3-2 victory over the Imps this season and Adamson felt his side’s mentality has played it’s part in each one of the successes.

He added: “The character we’ve shown in the game but also throughout the season has been a class above.

“We caused ourselves problems because we shouldn’t have gone 2-0 down in the first place but full credit has to go to all of the boys because we’ve fought back and we’ve got another win on the board.

“The spirit in the team is just brilliant and it’s just really enjoyable to be a part of it.”
