Brown determined to finish the season on a positive note

14 April 2023

James Brown says there is a collective determination among the Rovers squad to ensure a positive end to the season.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Harrogate Town, Brown says there is a great deal of frustration in the camp at the run of results but clear focus on turning things around in the final few weeks of the campaign.

On his loan spell:

“I’ve really enjoyed it. We started off flying when I first came in. We’ve had a lot of injuries and it hasn’t been going to plan recently. I’ve enjoyed the process of playing games so I’ve been pleased. We just want to improve results now.

“The goal was promotion and we’re not quite there so it’s disappointing. You want to go to the end of the season and fight for something so we just keep going and try to get points on the board.”

On staying motivated for the remainder of the season:

“It’s about pride. You don’t want to go out and lose games every week. No one does. It’s not enjoyable. Everyone wants to do well for the team and start changing things. Everyone is happier when you’re winning games, whether it is for something or not.

“I think we’ve shown in the last two games that we’re fighting for something. The results haven’t gone our way but the Gillingham game could have gone either way and I thought we should have won against Grimsby. It’s just the way things have gone recently.

“A big finish to the season could be big. You don’t want to keep losing. We’ve just got to keep our heads down and keep looking for results.”

On what has caused the run of results:

“There’s individual mistakes. I think we’ve had a few but if we iron them out and score more goals. We’re an inexperienced team and the lads that have come in have done what’s been asked of them. The lads that are out have been a big miss to get us over the line in games.

“We’ve got good players available. You see them in training and they’re more than capable of playing at this level and they’re putting their bodies on the line. When we go out, we’re confident in our team mates.

“When you go through a rough patch, you learn loads about your team mates and we back each other.”
