Schofield expecting physical battle at Gillingham

6 April 2023

Danny Schofield is expecting a tough physical battle when Rovers take on Gillingham on Good Friday.

Schofield’s side are looking to complete a league double over the Gills, after securing his first win in charge in the previous meeting back in October.

On Gillingham:

"I know the manager Neil Harris very well having played alongside him a few years back.

"They’ve had a big recruitment drive in January which saw them bring a few players in and helped them become competitive in the division.

"We know they have a distinct style of player, so we’ll prepare for that and try to improve the things that we’ve identified in our recent poor run."

On giving everything to bring a change in fortunes:

“All we can do as staff and players is keep giving everything to make sure that things do come together, and then we can move forward as one.

“Losing games is painful, it’s difficult when performances and results aren't coming but it’s down to myself and the people at the football club to change that.

“When you go through difficult periods, they can either make you think negatively on it or make you strive to get better and the latter is definitely aligned with my personality.”

On Joseph Olowu’s injury:

“Joseph has a slight tear in his hamstring. It’s a grade two so he won’t be available for the game against Gillingham.

“We’re going to have to assess him and we’ll wait for further information from the specialist, but that type of injury doesn’t tend to bring a quick recovery.

“It’s disappointing to lose another player but we have to try and deal with that challenge because it gives other players opportunities.”
