Bailey hunting for consistency with Rovers

20 August 2023

Owen Bailey believes Rovers set the standard for themselves in the Carabao Cup but must find a way to deliver on a consistent basis.

The victory at Hull City in the competition has been the high point of the campaign so far, as the hunt for a first league win continues.

Midfielder Bailey says aspects of the performance at the MKM Stadium must be carried into all fixtures as Rovers look to get on track in Sky Bet League Two.

“We have conceded quite a few goals so far and haven’t scored many so naturally that’s not going to end up well,” he said.

“The Hull game was a massive high for everybody. That shows how good we can be and everyone knows it.

“It was the perfect performance from this group. Sprinting everywhere, pressing, high energy, clinical on the counterattack and being calm, composed and keeping it when we’ve got the ball.

“Mansfield was kind of a step back in the right direction but it’s low after Saturday. We need to get back to the drawing board and find a level of consistency when we have two games in a week and try to really push on and get the points.”

The 24-year-old insists he is enjoying the elevation to League Two, having featured for Gateshead In the National League.

“It has been a step up, playing against some really good players,” he said. “Playing against Notts, I did last season so I knew kind of what to expect, how good they are, I knew the way they played.

“It’s a step up but we’ve got a good enough group to deal with that and turn it around now.”
