McCann calls for more concentration to end run of errors

27 August 2023

Grant McCann has called for more concentration and focus from his players in a bid to avoid the sort of errors that have cost Rovers so far this season.

An excellent performance at MK Dons was undone by two mistakes which saw the hosts run out 2-1 victors and leave Rovers still hunting for the first league win of the campaign.

“We gave ourselves an absolute mountain to climb again, conceding two goals in the manner we did,” McCann said. “One we didn’t track a man and the other came from not competing in the box from a set play. We conceded something similar last week against Notts County.

“We have to eradicate these errors because unfortunately it’s costing us as a team at the minute.

“I know the lads don’t mean to make those mistakes but we need more concentration and focus in certain moments in games because when you put a performance in like that you expect to come away with the three points.”

McCann was largely pleased with the showing from his side in the game - one he labelled the best performance of the season so far in the league.

He said: “We could have been 2-0 up with some really good chances. On another day those go in.

“I’m obviously really gutted about the result because we’re here to win games but that performance definitely gives us something to go on.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not standing here happy at all but that performance shows us that we’re moving in the right direction.”
