Miller enjoying battle for places at Rovers

9 August 2023

George Miller says he is relishing the competition for places in the Rovers front line.

The striker started Tuesday’s Carabao Cup game against Hull City and netted both goals in the 2-1 triumph over the Sky Bet Championship side.

Miller is going head to head with Joe Ironside for a starting shirt in Grant McCann’s system and is determined to show his best whenever the opportunity comes.

“It’s competition,” he said. “We’re completely different strikers, the both of us. We’ll both work hard for the team, whoever scores and we’ll get the win for the lads.

“I back myself. I never doubt myself. Any time I’m on the pitch I’m always going to give the best representation of what I can do.”

A composed finish from Miller brought Rovers level in the tie at Hull before he got his body in the way of a powerful drive from Harrison Biggins to divert home what proved to be the winner.

“The first one, it came over my shoulder and I got good contact on it and side-footed it into the bottom corner,” he said.

“I’m a finisher, that’s what I do. It’s second nature and you don’t have to think about it. It’s instinct.

“I got quite a big touch on the second goal to be fair - he blasted it off my chest! I got a bit of a guide on it and a goal is a goal at the end of the day.”
