Joseph Olowu feels Rovers showed what they are capable of with their performance in the Emirates FA Cup at Peterborough United.
Rovers pushed the on-form Sky Bet League One outfit all the way at the Weston Homes Stadium before falling to a 2-1 defeat.
And Olowu believes similar performances in league action will stand Rovers in good stead for the remainder of the campaign.
“I think it’s credit to what we’re doing and what we’re going to keep doing that we can go to one of the better teams in the league above and perform how we have,” he said.
“It’s about having that desire, week in, week out, Saturday-Tuesday to do it and go again. If we can do that and put that sort of performance in our league, then we’ll give ourselves the best chance going forward.
“I feel in parts and spells we were the better side and played the better football.
“I feel that we came here with our intensity, our intent, the press, the attitude and the appetite to go after the ball. We put some good passages of play together and it got us into the final third. It was just for us to capitalise on the chances.
“At the end of the day it’s the result that matters and we’ve come away with a 2-1 loss so we’re disappointed with that. We have to take the positives, go away, look at where we can improve and be better.”
Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, Olowu is confident there is plenty to be optimistic about over the coming months.
“There’s still a lot of time left, a lot of games to play,” he said. “We’re not even at the half way point yet and it’s about us keep working on what we’re doing, day in, day out to nail the basics and principles the gaffer wants us to play.
“For sure, there will be something exciting.”
