Rovers appoint David Rennie as head of medical

7 December 2023

Rovers are delighted to confirm the appointment of the experienced David Rennie as the club’s new head of medical.

Rennie spent more than two decades with Leicester City as head physio - a period which included the Foxes winning the League One, Championship and Premier League titles as well as featuring in the Champions League.

After returning to the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic, Rennie - who has overseen well in excess of 1,000 games during his career - linked up with former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson once again at Bristol City and spent two years at Ashton Gate before departing last month.

“I think it’s a really exciting project,” Rennie said. “Grant has really sold the vision as to what he wants to do with the place and it’s genuinely exciting.

“There’s some good times ahead so why not jump on board. Everyone loves a challenge.

“I’ve worked in a number of different divisions but not this one as of yet. It poses different things I need to think about in my areas of work so it gives me that fresh challenge moving forward.

"I've been fortunate enough to work with some really good people over the years and I'm enjoying this opportunity to work with Grant and Cliff here to help Doncaster try to move forwards."

A respected leader, Rennie has a strong history of building and overseeing medical and sports science departments within clubs and he is looking to but his stamp on the team at Rovers.

Manager Grant McCann said: “David is a fantastic appointment for our football club.

“His experience and know-how will be a massive benefit to the medical department and it’s a real coup for us to have him on board and to help shape the department how he sees fit.”

Rennie’s arrival at the club comes as physio Karl Blenkin departs to join rugby league side Castleford Tigers ahead of the new Super League season.

We thank Karl for his service at the club and wish him all the very best for the future.
