Second-year scholar Owen Scattergood was happy to contribute to his side’s 3-2 win over Huddersfield Town in the EFL Youth Alliance League.

The forward came on as a second half substitute to get on the scoresheet with Will Green and Jack Goodman at the Hoober Homes Elite Performance Centre.

Scattergood felt his side didn’t start the game as well as they would’ve liked to but their perseverance got its rewards come full time.

He said: “We had a slow start to the game really and it’s never nice to concede an early goal but the boys stuck at the task and got into the break with a strong end to the half.

“We came out for the second half really gunning for a goal and then the substitutes have come on and I think we really made a difference to the game.

“We got the goals to come back from two down and it feels really good to get the win for the team.”

The goal scorer replaced Harry Wood in midfield to get Rovers’ a first success of the game and then added an assist to put his side in front late on – a feat he was pleased with.

Scattergood added: “It’s always good to get minutes because it gives me the chance to really show what I can do on a football pitch.

“It was just pleasing to get on, score, get an assist and on top of that, it’s really nice to come away with the three points.

“For the goal, the ball has come in from the right-hand side and no one picked me up at the far post so it found its way to me and I just had to tap it home.

“For Jack [Goodman]'s goal, I picked the ball up on the halfway line, drove forward and he’s peeled off so I just slid him through and he never misses from there, so the assist was nice to top the goal off."

The youth team are next in EFL Youth Alliance League action on Saturday, February 18 as they face off with Burton Albion and Scattergood felt the Huddersfield result would help his side on their way.

“We’ll take this result and momentum on into training, and hopefully, we’ll be able to come back down here next weekend and get another win on the board to get closer to that top-half merit league.”
