Schofield and co eager for next test against Barrow

14 February 2023

Danny Schofield says he and the Rovers squad are itching to get out on the pitch once again as they look for a third consecutive victory when Barrow visit on Tuesday night.

The Cumbrian outfit are due at the Eco-Power Stadium, with Rovers looking to follow-up the wins over Tranmere Rovers and Swindon Town.

And Schofield says confidence in the camp is brimming following two good results and performances.

Schofield on being keen to get back into action:

“It’s the same any time. If you lose a game you want the next one to come quickly and if you win one you want it to come quickly so you can keep that momentum. We’ve analysed the opponent and the lads are ready to go.

“As long as you’re in the area where we are and you’re trying to fight at the top end at the end of the season, it can be a really exciting time, particularly for the supporters but the players and staff as well.

“We just need to remain grounded. It’s going to be a really tough challenge and really difficult. But we take every game as it comes, prepare the exact same and go through the strategy we always do.

“We do want to be where we are in the league. Are we trying to be higher? Yes. Are we fighting for that? Yes, definitely. There’s plenty to look forward to hopefully.”

On facing Barrow:

“They’re a really tough opponent. In the games we’ve watched and analysed, even when they’ve have a heavy loss on the scoreline, they’ve been competitive and been in the game. Moments in games are massive in both boxes.

“We’re going to face a competitive team. I think it’ll be different to the Swindon game and I think we’ll have more possession of the ball at times so we need to be more productive in that sense.

“I watched the reverse fixture before I came into this role. I’m aware of the performance and I think we suffered a lot on the counter attack in that game. We’re aware of their threats, particularly their attacking qualities.”

On James Maxwell reaching 100 senior appearances:

“It’s brilliant for him. Since I’ve been at the club, he’s gone from strength to strength. His performances are improving all the time, he’s buying into what we’re trying to do. Credit to him because he’s been working really hard on trying to improve the areas we’ve asked him to improve on.

“It’s a really good milestone and I’m sure he’s got plenty more games left to go.

“We do lots of individual clips with players and I feel that his one-v-one defending has been really good. He’s been more aggressive to press and more eager to get out to the player when receiving the ball. His understanding of what we want from him as coaches as well as him being able to execute those actions have been really good.”
