Tom Anderson named new Rovers captain

25 January 2023

Tom Anderson has been named the new Rovers captain following a vote by first team players.

The departure of Adam Clayton earlier this month left the captaincy open and head coach Danny Schofield opted to ballot the senior squad.

And Anderson was the unanimous choice of the group, with club captain Tommy Rowe also named vice-captain.

The club’s longest serving outfield player, Anderson was previously captain for an 18-month spell from January 2021 and says he is honoured to have been chosen once again.

“This is my sixth season at Doncaster now and I’ve got a relationship with everyone at the club, whether that’s people I work with every day, the fans or everyone to do with it,” the 29-year-old said.

“I want it just as much as everyone else. I’ve got that connection with the club - you’re not here six seasons and it mean nothing. I work as hard as I can every day that I’m here to help the club get back to where we belong.

“I’m really pleased to get it back.”

On the choice of Anderson, head coach Schofield said: “He’s been at the club for a number of years now and he’s well-liked by the squad. He has real strong leadership qualities.

“It’ll be a proud moment for him to have that captaincy back and I’m sure he won’t let anyone down.”
