Lakin confident of adding more creativity to Rovers midfield

27 January 2023

Charlie Lakin is confident he can add to Rovers’ creativity after joining on loan from Burton Albion.

The midfielder arrived on a deal until the end of the season, becoming the fifth signing of the January window.

Lakin will add competition in the heart of the Rovers midfield and is looking to deliver goals from the position.

“Hopefully I can pop up with a few goals here and there but definitely get forward and attack,” he said. “When I play consistently I’m a confident player, that’s what I want to get back to and I’m sure the fans will enjoy watching me when I get back to that stage.

“I’m very energetic, I won’t stop running, I like to attack and create things.

“I just want to get as many games as I can under my belt. I’m striving to get better game by game and I want to better myself as a person and a player.”

The 23-year-old trained with Rovers all week ahead of finalising his loan move and has been impressed with his new teammates so far.

“It’s been fantastic,” he said. “All the lads have been easy and welcoming. The manager and the coaching staff have been the same. I’ve been here a few days now and I’ve got used to everyone so I’m enjoying it.

“The manager wants me to be confident and be myself. He feels with my attributes that I can add to the group. He said he wants me to enjoy my football, play with a smile on my face. That’s what I want to do.

“A couple of wins back-to-back put you right in the mix and looking at the automatics as well.

“The lads and the coaching staff have all got that ambition for promotion, which is good. And from what I’ve seen so far I think that is achievable.”

Lakin is hopeful of making his first appearance for the club in this weekend’s clash with Mansfield Town.

“It’ll be a tough game because they’re a good team,” he said. “But we know what to expect and what we need to do to win the game. I’m sure we’re more than capable to go there and get the three points we need. If we do that, it’ll be a massive win.”
