Lavery relishing prospect of debut at Mansfield

26 January 2023

Rovers new boy Caolan Lavery is relishing the prospect of making his debut in front of a large away following at Mansfield Town this weekend.

The forward signed an 18-month deal at the Eco-Power Stadium earlier this week and is hopeful of playing some part in Saturday’s short trip to face the Stags.

Lavery on his excitement for the weekend:

“I’m relishing it and I’m ready to get going.

“I’m coming off a good period for myself in the first half of the season. I know it’s a league below but I’m looking to carry on the form.

“I’m really looking forward to getting going, I’m ready for the weekend to come. We’ll see what happens between now and the end of the season but I expect there to be a good push from the boys.

“The confidence in me shouldn’t go anywhere. It’s a different club but I’m still full of confidence and if I get a chance this weekend I’ll be confident in taking it and I’m going to do everything I can to extend the form.”

On his preferred position and building a partnership with George Miller:

“I’m happy to play wherever he wants me to play, with who he wants me to play with and I’ll do everything I can wherever I’m playing.

“You want to be playing with players that are in form and George is in form. He’s doing well. You can see in training the type of player he is. It’s a joy to play with good players and I’m looking forward to it.”

On the prospects for the rest of the season:

“The boys in the building are confident, we’re sitting in a decent position - which came into my decision.

“Back-to-back wins in any league can take you up the division. But let’s just start with this weekend and we can worry about the rest later on.”

On facing Mansfield this weekend:

“It’s been disappointing for the lads that the last two weekends have been called off but the intensity in training today was top class and you can tell the boys are ready for a game.

“I’ve seen that 1,700 fans are making the trip and that;’s brilliant. It’s a big game that I’m looking forward to and hopefully it’s a debut incoming for me.”
