He was itching to get going and George Broadbent was pleased to get his first match minutes for Rovers.
The midfielder played the second half of the friendly at Rossington Main and marked the occasion with the second goal of a 3-1 win.
He said: “I think the first friendly you play is just about getting used to the game again and the positions you’re going to play, what the gaffer wants and trying to implement that early.
“I enjoyed it and I think all the lads did. It’s just good to get the first one out of the way.
“I was watching the first half and thinking I just wanted to play. I thought we did quite well second half.”
