Richard Wood is the ‘perfect fit’ for the Rovers captaincy according to manager Grant McCann.
The armband has been handed to the 38-year-old ahead of the new season and McCann says Wood’s experience and ability to influence his team mates were key to his decision.
He said: “There’s a lot of different qualities and attributes. A lot of people look at individual performance and how you perform but it’s much more than that. It’s what you do on an everyday level, how dedicated you are to the role, leading this group.
“We are a young group and we’ve sprinkled a bit of experience in and around it. Woody has been there and done it. He knows what it’s about and how to handle certain situations on and off the pitch and he’s the perfect fit for it.”
