Grant McCann is purely focused on fitness as Rovers begin their pre-season friendly programme at Rossington Main on Saturday.
After ten days on the training ground, McCann admits he is looking forward to some match action but insists the priority is the conditioning of the players rather than tactical work on the day at Oxford Street.
“It’s all about fitness,” McCann said. “It’s about the lads pushing themselves for 45 minutes or so in the game. There will be two different teams playing 45 minutes each.
“The way we’ve structured pre-season, we want everyone to get two 45 minutes, two 60 minutes and two 90 minutes. This is the start of it.
“We’re looking forward to it. It’s a local game and I’m sure there will be quite a few fans there. Hopefully we can help Rossington Main on the day, as we have done in the village earlier in the week.
“It’s a fitness exercise for us. Hopefully we can show some of the stuff what we’ve worked on in training but that doesn’t concern me in the first two or three pre-season games.
“It’s not the result, it’s about making sure the boys come through the game unscathed and get as much work into their legs as possible.”
