Doncaster Rovers Academy have formed a partnership with A1 Football Factory to help unearth potential stars of the future.

The working relationship will see Rovers collaborate with the Pontefract-based facility to host tournaments during school holidays, which will provide an opportunity for the Academy to recruit players from outside the Doncaster area.

Experts at A1 Football Factory - owned by former Rovers midfielder and current Academy coach Paul Green - will also provide nutritional support for Rovers U18s, producing meals for the players to enjoy after matches.

A1 Football Factory director Simon Fletcher said: "We are delighted to be able to work with a club like Doncaster which is close to Paul Green’s heart.

“Over the years, we have worked really hard to develop a coaching structure with a clear pathway for football players of all abilities with a syllabus that covers children from two to 18-year-olds.

“We have had some great success at the top end with a number of professional Academy contracts being signed by some of our players but with this new partnership with Rovers, this will only strengthen our offering as we see more and more players being given similar opportunities to our very own Paul Green.

“We cannot wait to get started and to support Rovers across their junior programme.”

Paul - who made more than 200 appearances for Rovers - is looking forward to watching the project blossom.

He said: “I'm really excited for my personal coaching Academy and facility to be in partnership with Rovers.

“Working together to help children with extra coaching along with the chancce for Rovers to view our most gifted players is a really promising opportunity for all in and around the Pontefract area.

“Our facility is a huge community hub for local talent and I do not see a better way for any professional club to view these players as we have many visiting our premises on a weekly basis.”

The Academy will provide A1 Football Factory with some of the age group coaches who will be able share their expertise with teams who train at their facilities on an evening.

Academy head of business performance Stuart Swift said: “Paul Green is part of the history of the club as a player and the future as a coach within the Academy.

“The partnership between Rovers and A1 will be highly beneficial to the Academy programme and provide our players with extra opportunities to support their development.

“We have some fantastic plans in store and all the Academy staff are looking forward to working with the team at A1 with Simon and Paul.”
