We are delighted to confirm that Richard Wood has been named captain of Rovers for the 2023/24 campaign.
The 38-year-old will lead out Rovers, having previously worn the armband at Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Rotherham United.
“I’m really proud and honoured to be asked to do it by the manager, and really grateful,” Wood said. “I just want to make sure I repay that trust in the role that he has given me and make sure I do well this season and give my all.
“I’m really happy to have been asked and I think it shows the type of character I am and what I can bring to the club that the manager knows all about me.
“I’ve been around the game a long time and I think all my experience definitely helps, What I know about the game and what it takes to get promoted, hopefully I can spread that around the dressing room and make sure we have a good season.”
Manager Grant McCann said: “It was about a different voice, his organisational skills and the promotions he’s had. Woody has been there and done it.
“When I spoke to him about it, he was absolutely delighted and we look forward to seeing him lead the team.”
