Broadbent convinced he can develop with Rovers

1 June 2023

George Broadbent is convinced Rovers is the club where he can make big strides in his young career.

The midfielder has signed a two-year deal at the Eco-Power Stadium after switching from South Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

And he said boss Grant McCann had sold him on the project he is putting together at the club, as well as how he can be developed as a player.

“I’m really looking forward working with the manager,” the 22-year-old said. “He has a past history of helping young players develop and become a success.

“The manager was really positive from our first phonecall. He explained the project and how he sees working with me and what he can do to help me.

“He’s seen me play and he was really positive on where he sees me playing as well as the club hitting targets for the season coming up.”

The former Manchester United youngster will add energy to Rovers’ midfield ranks.

He said: “I’m a box-to-box midfielder who likes to get up and down, attacking and defending. I contribute goals and assists and I see myself arriving late in the box to score goals.

“I’ll give 100 per cent effort in every game and leave everything on the pitch. I’m a real team member that’s willing to learn and adapt to different roles, whether that’s in a defensive position or an attacking position.”
