Louis Jones signs new Rovers deal

7 June 2023

Rovers are delighted to confirm that goalkeeper Louis Jones has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The Thorne-born 24-year-old is Rovers’ longest-serving senior player, having first signed professional terms in March 2017, and has now committed his future to the club until the summer of 2025.

“I’m thrilled to extend my stay at the club,” Jones said. “I’ve been here for a long time now and I think I have a real understanding of the feeling the fans, having been through the ups and downs with them.

“Hopefully this year we can push on with Grant and Cliff and have an exciting season.”

Academy graduate Jones has made 38 senior appearances for Rovers, including starting the final two games of last season.

Manager Grant McCann said: “Louis is a lad who is developing all the time. He’s still only young and I’m looking forward to seeing him fight Ian Lawlor for that number one spot.

“He’ll be wanting to play more but he understands he’ll have a fight on his hands with Lawsy and Lawsy understands he’ll have a fight on his hands with Louis.”
