Hurst determined to continue development after signing new deal

1 March 2023

This season may have surpassed all his expectations but Kyle Hurst is only focused on the future after signing a new contract at Rovers.

The 21-year-old joined the club last summer, looking to make a breakthrough into senior football. And 36 appearances and seven goals later, he has signed a new two-and-a-half year contract to secure his future until the summer of 2025.

“If you’d have said I would have been in this position, I would have no words,” Hurst said. “I wasn’t even thinking about that at the start of the season - I just wanted to come in and play.

“Now it’s come, I’m really pleased.

“I feel appreciated. With the way that I’ve been playing in games, I’ve think I’ve showcased how I am as a player.  The hard work pays off.

“I just want to continue the way I’m going, improving on a personal level. With the club, it’s about going as far as we can. I feel like we have the players and the staff to do it.”

Hurst says he is enjoying his development under head coach Danny Schofield and feels he is in the right place to continue his improvement.

“He just said how pleased he has been with me - even when I was out of the team,” he said. “The way I dealt with that and then to get back into the team and stay in, how fantastic that is.

“I’ve had a few good chats with him about it all and he’s really pleased for me to have the new contract and to continue working with him.

“Training is good every day. We’re always working and learning new things on the pitch. It’s been great working with him.

“There’s more clarity in training and in games, which helps on a personal level.”
