Schofield frustrated as mistakes give Rovers uphill task at Salford

Danny Schofield said Rovers gave themselves an uphill task with poor mistakes as they fell to defeat at Salford City.

Each of the goals conceded in the 3-1 defeat was preventable, leaving Schofield frustrated against a good quality opposition:

Schofield on how the game played out:

“It was a difficult game for us and I think the better team overall won the football game. When you come to these places you know that it’s going to be a tough challenge.

“To concede the first two goals on the back end of mistakes from us is difficult and gives you an uphill challenge. Mistakes are going to happen in games but we need to eradicate them to give us the opportunity to compete.

“Conceding the third one, that next goal was vital to get us a foothold in the game. We wanted to try to be on the front foot and press a bit higher. But Salford are a good team and they created some good moments against us.

“Salford had some quality actions but when we conceded the third goal I thought we defended it poorly. It was then difficult for us to get back into the game and they managed it well.”

On the impact of the defeat:

“We saw this game as an important one for us because we knew we were coming into it six points off Salford. If we could compete and win the game it would have cut the gap. We knew a defeat would be really damaging to our hopes.

“We’ve got to dust ourselves down quickly and move onto Tuesday.”

On Stuart Moore’s arrival:

“He came in to train on Friday and was straight into the team. He’s signed on an emergency loan because of the shoulder injury to Jonathan Mitchell. We waited on the scan results and when we got the results we moved to bring in Stuart.

“I think he showed great character. It’s always difficult when a keeper makes an error. It happens in football.

“Do we need to eradicate these mistakes? Yes. I think there’s been too many this season.

“But Stuart showed good character to perform well for the rest of the game.”

On frustration from supporters:

“I’ve got to take that criticism. If the team is not performing and not winning games, that’s part of my role. It’s disappointing because when you put so much work into trying to win football games and it doesn’t materialise how you want, it’s difficult.”
