Schofield urges players to take their chance to impress against Crawley

21 March 2023

Danny Schofield has challenged players to take their opportunity in the side as Rovers head to Crawley Town with depleted numbers.

Harrison Biggins and George Miller have been ruled out of the game through injury while Ben Nelson has reported for international duty with England U19.

And Schofield has urged those who fill the openings in the match day squad to grasp their chance to impress.

On the game being ‘must win’:

“It feels that way prior to the game. It won’t be mathematically impossible but we know it’s going to be a tough ask. With the squad that we now have available for games, being quite depleted, it’s going to be a challenge.

“We have to look positively into that. Other players will get opportunities and we’ve got to keep fighting for every point and see where  we end. We cannot say ‘play-offs, we can’t make it.’ We have to think it’s possible. We know it’s going to be tough and it’s going to be a challenge but we’ve got to think that we can keep performing and win football games to close the gap.”

On Liam Ravenhill’s appearance at Salford:

“He’s a young player who is developing and we’ve said that from the start. He definitely brings positives to the team - all-out action, effort, gives everything when he comes onto the football pitch.

“He will be in the squad against Crawley Town and I think we’ll see more of him before the end of the season. With the injury list growing and players unavailable, Liam will probably feature more now.”

On the health of the squad:

“All three [Harrison Biggins, George Miller and Ro-Shaun Williams] are out of the game at Crawley.

“They’ll undergo scans - George on his knee and Harrison on his groin - to judge the extent of the damage and we’ll take it from there.

“With Ben Nelson on international duty, we have a few players that are missing for this one.”

On Jack Goodman:

“He will be in contention to be in the squad. We travelled with 20 players to Salford so Jack gained some valuable experience on that trip.”
