Zain Westbrooke hungry to make an impression at Rovers

24 March 2023

Zain Westbrooke is arriving at Rovers with the hunger to make a big impact during the last few weeks of the season.

The 26-year-old was snapped up as a free agent in order to add some depth to the club’s midfield ranks following season-ending injuries for Harrison Biggins and Charlie Lakin.

Having been without a club since leaving Bristol Rovers in January, the midfielder is determined to make a mark in his short-term deal.

“I’m hungry to get my career back on track,” he said. “I was at a good point and then I found myself not playing so much at Bristol Rovers in the latter part of my contract.

“I’ve got a lot of hunger and desire to get in this team. I know we’re pushing to finish as high as we can so hopefully I can add some energy, creativity and goals.

“If I didn’t feel like I could hit the ground running then I wouldn’t have come in. It’s something I need for myself, not just the team. I need to make an impact so I can get my career going again.”

Westbrooke trained with Rovers ahead of the decision being taken by head coach Danny Schofield to offer him a contract and he says he was impressed by what he experienced at Cantley Park.

“I’ve played against Doncaster a few times and it’s a big club,” he said. “I felt that when I came in and I felt that the manager understood the situation that I was in, needing to play and wanting to have an impact straight away.

“I like the way the team is playing and his philosophy. It felt like the right fit for me.”
