Ross Joyce will now referee Rovers' clash with Accrington Stanley in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday.
Alan Young had initally been appointed referee but has been replaced by Joyce.
The Cleveland official has taken charge of 13 matches this term, with the majority coming in Sky Bet League One and Two. He has issued 61 yellow cards and six reds across those games.
This will be his second outing of the season refereeing a Rovers game, having taken charge of the win over Everton U21 in the Bristol Street Rovers Trophy in September.
In total, Joyce has refereed 16 Rovers matches, dating back to 2015. Rovers won nine of those matches, drawing three.
Joyce will be assisted by Steve Durnall and Grant Taylor on Saturday while Benjamin Tomlinson has been assigned fourth official duties.
