Anderson hopeful of a change in away fortunes after Tranmere win

21 October 2023

Tom Anderson is hopeful the win at Tranmere Rovers can be the spark to ignite Rovers’ form on the road this season.

The 2-1 triumph at Prenton Park was the second away league victory of the campaign.

And, speaking to the media after the game, stand-in skipper Anderson said there is a determination in the Rovers camp to align away form with the impressive run of results on home soil.

“We’ve spoken about it over the last few days and weeks how we need to match our away form with our home form,” he said. “It’s a tough league when you’re going to places like Prenton Park and Stockport and Barrow but it’s the same game at the end of the day.

“We have to take the results from home to away like we have done here. That’s what will get us climbing up the league.”

The win over Tranmere was Rovers’ fifth from seven matches in Sky Bet League Two.

Anderson believes the upturn in form was powered by belief in the methods being implemented by the coaching staff.

“Even before the results came, performances were very good and that’s the main thing,” he said. “We’re judged on results and you need results to get up the league but it’s always good that performances are there and we knew the results were coming.

“It was important for us that we kept doing what we were doing, sticking together and were positive. That’s what we have done.

“We’ve got back-to-back wins and we’ve got another game on Tuesday that we’ll be going out to win.

“When you’re climbing up the league and seeing yourself edging up two or three places each week, it helps your confidence.

“But we’ll keep doing what we’re doing regardless, go about our business in the right way and keep performances going.”
