McCann pleased with Rovers' momentum

19 October 2023

Grant McCann believes Rovers are building momentum with results as they prepare to visit Tranmere Rovers.

With four wins from the last six matches in Sky Bet League Two, Rovers have matched strong performances with results to begin the climb up the table.

And manager McCann is pleased with the direction in which his side are heading.

“It’s obviously not been easy with factors that we’ve had inside the camp, such as injuries but we can’t keep nagging on about that,” he said. “It is what it is.

“We’re obviously pleased with the response from the group. They’re working very hard. Even the games that we’ve lost recently, we feel that we’ve had opportunities to win.

“We’re disappointed that we didn’t but it’s the start of another chance for us to go and put on another good performance at Tranmere.

“It’s going to be difficult because it always is at Prenton Park, regardless of where they are in the division.

“We don’t look at that at this stage of the season any way because we know teams can come late, like you saw with Stockport last season.

“It’s another tough game for us against one of my former managers and I look forward to seeing Nigel [Adkins].”

The Friday night fixture pits McCann against Adkins, who he worked under with great success at Scunthorpe United.

And he is looking forward to the reunion.

“I learned a lot off Nigel and working with him gave the inspiration to go into coaching, just with how positive he was all the time,” McCann said.

“He had an edge about him in the changing room and I’m sure he’s still got it, that maybe people don’t see.

“That probably shows with how good a manager he is and what he’s achieved over the years.

“We had some really good times together. We had a really good team at Scunthorpe and the promotions. It’ll be really good to see him.”

McCann confirmed Tommy Rowe suffered a fracture to his shoulder during the win over Sutton United and is set to miss several weeks of action.
