Jack Senior admitted finding it difficult to be too concerned with Rovers’ performance as they ran out 1-0 winners over Grimsby Town.
Rovers were not at their best in possession but showed defensive steel to provide the platform for the win - secured with a penalty from Joe Ironside.
Senior - who made his first start in six weeks in the win over the Mariners - was pleased with the battling nature of the performance.
“It was a big win,” he said. “We had to dig in at times and it wasn’t the best we’ve been in possession.
“When there’s days like that where it’s not so much coming off and you’re not dominating as much with the ball, you’ve got to find a way to win and I thought from back to front we were resolute and we defended the box really well.
“Everyone, to a man, was very good. A clean sheet is another positive for me as a defender, and everyone really. We had to weather the storm at times but that’s part and parcel of games like this and I’m just happy to get the three points.
“It’s not going to be smooth sailing every single game, there’s going to be teams coming out to stop us doing what we’re good at. We weren’t as fluent, but when it comes down to it on a Saturday at five o’clock, when you’ve got the three points, it’s all that matters.
“You just come to working on the little things we need to tweak and want to work on during the week and go again.”
Senior praised another player making his return from injury, Kyle Hurst, after he drew the foul for the winning penalty.
“I’m buzzing for Hursty,” Senior said. “He’s had a tough time with his injury but at the training ground he’s worked ever so hard. I’m so happy for him. He’s such a good lad and as a footballer he’s so exciting to watch.
“I’m so buzzing that he was the one to play such a big part in getting us the goal. Joe’s got to take it but nine times out of ten you back him to score.”
