Rovers sign Blades forward Louie Marsh on season-long loan

1 September 2023

Doncaster Rovers are delighted to confirm the signing of forward Louie Marsh on a season-long loan from Sheffield United.

The 19-year-old arrives at the Eco-Power Stadium fresh from making his senior debut for the Blades in their midweek Carabao Cup tie with Lincoln City. He was also named among the substitutes for United's first three matches in the Premier League.

Sheffield-born Marsh was prolific last season at U21 level for the Blades, whom he has been on the books of since the age of six. He netted hat-tricks in consecutive matches for the U21s this term prior to his move to Rovers.

“I’m very pleased,” he said. “This is my first loan and I’m really looking forward to it, meeting the rest of the players and the fans and I just can’t wait to get started.

“How the gaffer plays fits my playing style. I just can’t wait to show what I can do.

“There was interest from other clubs but Doncaster is a club that I want to play for and as soon as I knew about the interest I said yes straight away and never looked back.”

Rovers boss Grant McCann says the club saw off stiff competition for the signing of Marsh - who has been at the top of his list of targets throughout the summer.

“We’re delighted to get Louie,” McCann said. “ He’s a player we have tracked since I arrived at the club and unfortunately couldn’t get him done earlier for his involvement with Sheffield United’s first team.

“He’s an exciting player that can play in a No.10 role or as a No.9 dropping in. He’s technically excellent, has a real eye for goal having scored more than 20 last term and he’ll bring great competition at the top end of the pitch.

“Massive thanks to Paul Heckingbottom for trusting us in Louie’s development as there was interest from League One and Louie chose to join us.”

Marsh is not eligible to make his Rovers debut in Saturday's clash with Swindon Town, having been signed after the registration deadline but will be available for the trip to Wrexham next weekend.

He will wear number 34 during his time with Rovers.
