McCann not looking beyond Barrow is bid to build winning form

Back-to-back league wins may have transformed the early season results picture for Rovers but Grant McCann is not looking too far ahead.

While determined to climb Sky Bet League Two as quickly as possible, McCann insists no one in the camp is looking beyond this weekend’s trip to Barrow.

“It’s just one game at a time for us,” he said. “We have in-house targets that we look at, every six games etc. But the next one is always the most important for us.

“After last week’s game we were quickly focused onto Barrow.

“It’s another three game week for us and a tough one as well. Barrow are a really good team and hard to play against at home, Crawley are right in the mix in the top six after a very good start, and Stockport lost in play-off final and have started to kick on.

“It’s a tough week for us but one we’re looking forward to.”

Saturday’s hosts Barrow have been miserly in front of goal at both ends of the pitch so far this season and McCann is forecasting a difficult afternoon for Rovers at the SO Legal Stadium.

“They’ve done really well in terms of the size of the club and how well they did last season,” he said. “They seem to have started the season in the same fashion again.

“We’re under no illusions that this is another tough game and we’ve prepared all week. Hopefully we can go in there and put in a performance that will result in another win for us.

“They were unfortunate last week at Mansfield. Watching it back, I think they did well in the game. They drew with Wrexham at home. They haven’t been beaten there.

“It’s always a tough game there.”

Rovers will welcome back Tommy Rowe following a three-match league suspension and McCann is hopeful the veteran midfielder will be joined by others returning from injury.

He said: “There has been one or two back on the grass this week. Tommy Rowe is back on the grass after his suspension and hopefully you’ll see a couple more involved.

“Everyone that was involved last week came through okay and we go into Saturday’s game a little bit stronger than we have been previously, with a few more options.”
