McCann insists there will be no shift in focus for Rovers

14 April 2024

Grant McCann insists the focus does not shift for Rovers despite the 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley moving them within a point of Sky Bet League Two’s top seven.

McCann has refused to be distracted by his side’s position in the league table and has consistently declared that the next game is all that is important for Rovers.

And he continued to do so after an eighth straight league triumph for Rovers - coupled with results elsewhere - saw them climb to eighth in the standings.

"I'm not concerned what others have done or are going to do," he said. "I just want to finish the season strong and if it's good enough to put us right in that top seven then great. If not, then that's the way it is.

"The boys are riding the crest of a wave at the minute and all we can do is focus on ourselves. We've got a game against another side in the top seven next week [Barrow]. It should be another good day for us and hopefully another good game.

"They beat us easily at their place - we just didn’t get going.Hopefully we show how much we've improved and give them a better game.”

McCann also insisted that there will be no change of approach for the test of Barrow on Saturday at the Eco-Power Stadium despite having a final blank midweek.

He said: “We just keep the foot on the gas. We’ll be back in Monday, preparing for Barrow. We’ll make sure we get the right work and rest into the group.

“But we have to keep going into the next one.”

On the win over Accrington, McCann was impressed with the performance from his side, even if he felt they could have won by a wider margin.

He said: “I thought we played really well. We knew we were up against an Accrington team that have had two really good results coming into it and I thought they would be dangerous and they would play with freedom.

"Once the goal went in for us, they kept coming and credit to them. But I thought my team was really good.

“I thought we could have had more to be honest. I thought we had a lot of different chances that if the last pass had got in there it would have certainly extended the scoreline.

“But I’m really pleased.”
