Confidence key to Rovers' run: McCann

7 April 2024

Grant McCann was delighted to see Rovers demonstrating such confidence in their play as they swept aside Morecambe for a sixth consecutive win.

A Luke Molyneux brace in the first half saw Rovers take control against the play-off chasers before Tommy Rowe rounded off the win in added time.

It secured the best winning run in league action since the League Two title winning campaign of 2003/04 and also brought a fourth straight clean sheet for McCann’s side.

“The boys are playing with a smile on their face and they’re really enjoying it, which is pleasing,” he said.

“It was very controlled I felt. We were really good in the first half and the team is playing with real confidence at the minute.

“We scored two very good goals. A great ball from Haks and a really good finish from Mols and then a free kick that we’ve worked on in training.

“We tried to make it difficult for the goalkeeper to line his wall up so we kept Molyneux away to the last minute and then brought him across. The keeper has got to move again and it keeps him guessing and then Mols has found the gap brilliantly.

“In the second half we were against the wind and it was difficult but I still felt we were in control. We limited them to shots from distance and when Timmy needed to make a save he made a really good one.

“And then we score a great goal. A great ball from Max and a good finish from Tommy Rowe to round off the game for us.”

McCann is awaiting prognoses on both Harrison Biggins and Maxime Biamou who were forced off with injuries during the game.
