McCann: The feel-good factor is so strong, we're having to push players out at the end of the day

Grant McCann revealed the Rovers coaching staff are having to call on the skills of doormen to remove players from the training ground who are desperate not to leave.

Speaking to the media ahead of the clash with Accrington Stanley, the Rovers manager discussed how the positive feeling around the camp has only grown as the season has progressed.

And that is having the knock-on effect of players having to be ushered out after training - so keen are they to stick around at Cantley Park.

“I think the thing that is standing out for me at the minute is the enjoyment that I’m seeing on their faces,” McCann said.

“They’re really enjoying playing and working for each other.

“The camaraderie at the training ground is really good. We’re having to push them out of the door at the end of the day to go home and rest.

“We can’t get them off the training pitch. I dragged Hakeeb in today - he just wanted to stay out there.

“This is great. It’s what we want to create, that feel-good factor about the place.

“It’s been there all season. When people were asking earlier in the season what the mood in the camp was like, it’s always been good.

“It’s a testament to the group of players we have but also the staff in and around this building because they are ones that can drive the mood and keep standards high.

“Ultimately, if you keep doing the right things then you’ll get rewarded for it.

“But we cannot look at what has gone, we need to look ahead to what is next and that is Accrington.”

Speaking on the test of Accrington, McCann is expecting a good footballing game against the Lancashire side.

“I think it’ll be a tough game,” he said. “It’ll be a bit strange playing against Accrington without John Coleman because he was there for so long.

“John Doolan has gone in there and will put his own stamp on it. They've had a couple of good results in their last few games. They were possibly unlucky not to beat Crewe and then they’ve gone to Newport and won, which is a tough place for anyone to go, as we know.

“They’re a good footballing team and it’ll be a good footballing game. They’ve got individuals that can hurt you if you’re not on your game.

“We know what they’re about. We’ve shown the boys and the lads have played them this season so we know what they’re about.

“Again it’ll be about how we approach it on the day and hopefully we can deliver the plan to get us another three points.”
