Adelakun pleased with swiftness of relationship building at Rovers

11 February 2024

Hakeeb Adelakun is delighted to have forged productive relationships with team mates on the pitch so soon into his time at Rovers.

Adelakun linked up superbly with Joe Ironside to create Rovers’ opener against Tranmere before netting the winner himself.

And he believes connections with the likes of Ironside are key to getting the best out of him during his stay at the Eco-Power Stadium.

“It’s massive,” he said. “It’s a big part of my game, combining. It also helps me massively because a big part of my game is getting goals and assists. I want to be supplying goals as well as scoring so building relationships is massive for me.

“Joe came up to me and asked what I tend to do. We had a bit of a chat about it. Thankfully I was in the right position at that time and the ball met him well. He got up and it was a great finish.

“It’s happened in training as well when we’ve gone through it. There was two defenders around him but he’s got up in the middle and flicked it into the corner.”

The 27-year-old admitted there was a huge feeling of relief among the squad at picking up the win.

“It was brilliant for us,” he said. “You saw the boys putting their bodies on the line and defending as a unit so it’s massive for us.

“I think it showed at the final whistle, that big deep breath and relaxing.

“It is a relief because of what we worked on during the week - little patterns of play but also trying to stay strong as a unit, defend together. That all came to fruition.

“We got a bit of luck as well but sometimes you get that when you put in the work.

“There’s a big buzz in the changing room. We can have that tonight but then get ready for Salford on Tuesday.”
