Byrne happy with workout in Tranmere behind-closed-doors game

20 February 2024

Rovers came back from two goals down for a 2-2 draw in a behind-closed-doors game at Tranmere Rovers.

Important match minutes were given to those players who have not featured regularly in recent weeks, while Jay McGrath continued his comeback from injury by playing the full game.

Tranmere went ahead through Luke Norris and Josh Hawkes but Rovers hit back after the break through Jack Degruchy and Jack Goodman.

Assistant manager Cliff Byrne was pleased with the afternoon’s work.

“It was a competitive game,” Byrne said. “Tranmere put out a competitive team and so did we.

“It was a really good workout for both teams. We showed good character, coming back from 2-0 down to get it back to 2-2.

“The attitude of the players was really good and we got some good minutes into the lads in what was a combative game that everyone came through okay.”

Rovers: Jones, Nixon, Olowu, McGrath, Allen, Flint (Degruchy 60), Broadbent, Rowe (Straughan-Brown 75), Hurst (Imariagbe 75), Trialist (Kuleya 60), Goodman.
