Foundation to host Community Day at Forest Green Rovers fixture

26 February 2024

Club Doncaster Foundation will showcase their vast array of activity in the city at their Community Day on Saturday, March 23.

As Doncaster Rovers host Forest Green Rovers followed by the Belles’ clash with Chester-le-Street Town, the Foundation will put on a range of free activities at the Eco-Power Stadium to give supporters an insight into the extent of community outreach work.

Each department within the Foundation will demonstrate their typical weekly activity, with supporters able to take part and potentially win prizes.

The meeting between Rovers and Forest Green is also the Foundation’s annual Junior Takeover Day, where pupils from the organisation’s partner schools take on matchday job roles ranging from first team manager to PA announcer. Children have submitted applications to the Foundation that encouraged their creative writing.

Foundation chief executive John Davis said: “The Community Day gives us an opportunity to shine a light on the fantastic work that happens across Doncaster on every day of the week, 365 days a year.

“We get significant support from the owners, to Grant and Cliff and the first team squad and it makes a huge difference to our ability to improve peoples lives across the city.

“We want fans to come down to the stadium early, meet our team, try the activities and learn more about the organisation itself and how everything we do, impacts individuals on a regular basis.

“We look forward to welcoming you on the day.”

The Foundation will also present the PFA Community Champion award to a player who has provided support within the community throughout the season.

The Premier League Community Captain award will also be presented to a participant or staff member from within the Foundation who has made an outstanding contribution to their club and community.

Club Doncaster chief executive Gavin Baldwin said: “There are numerous impactful projects and programmes that take place on a daily basis within the Foundation, from delivery within schools across the city, educational courses within the heart of the stadium, to fitness classes and specific sessions for groups, such as Fit Forces.

“The community day will give fans the chance to see some of this incredible work, all in one place, with a range of activities delivered by the Foundation staff, in and around the stadium.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to find out what the fantastic charity linked to our club, is all about and the impact they make on the people of Doncaster.”

Check out the Foundation’s social media channels in the lead up to March 23 for information on the activities that will be taking place.
