Nothing to lose and everything to gain with Biamou deal: McCann

Grant McCann believes all parties have nothing to lose and everything to gain with the signing of Maxime Biamou at Rovers.

The French striker has signed a short-term deal with the club and will provide further support to Rovers’ attacking ranks.

The move also presents an opportunity for the 33-year-old to return to competitive football, having spent almost two years on the sidelines due to injury.

“There’s nothing to lose with this one,” McCann said.

“First and foremost we like to make sure the people we bring into this football club have a good character and that was one of the first things we made sure about with Max.

“The reports that came back about Max were excellent, as well as how powerful he can be, how quick he can be and how strong he is. These are things we know he’s got and it’s now about us getting him as fit as possible.

“It takes a bit of time of course but he’s certainly able to help us in the short term as well, which is great.

“We’ve done quite a bit of 11v11 work on the training ground and we’ve built him up that way but the next stage is just games.”

McCann is delighted to have another attacking option added to the squad following the injury which ended the season of loanee Conor Carty.

“We’re really pleased to have him on board and it gives us another option in the forward areas,” he said.

“We were really unfortunate with the injury to Conor who we felt could have been a real good foil for us in attack. Jon Taylor’s been missing for a bit, although we don’t foresee him being out for too long.

“Max coming in has also given the opportunity for Jack Goodman and Tavonga Kuleya, two of the young attacking players we think highly of, to go out and get some games.

“It’s a win-win for everybody.”
