Grant McCann was delighted to send Rovers’ tremendous travelling support home happy - and wants plenty more of that before the end of the season.
Rovers were backed by 1,158 fans at Grimsby Town and delivered a season’s best 5-1 triumph at Blundell Park for the third away win of the campaign.
McCann acknowledged his side have not ensured enough happy away days for supporters this season, which is something he is keen to change in the final few months.
“It’s been a good day for us and we’ve sent the fans home happy which is what we set out to do,” he said. “And we want to do it more often.
“I touched on it during the week after the Salford game - we’ve got four of the next six away and if we can produce performances like that away from home, it’ll stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.”
The result at Grimsby was a fourth game without defeat for Rovers and McCann believes his side are well placed to continue their climb up the Sky Bet League Two table.
“We’ve got a long way to go,” he said. “We’ve still got a quarter of so of the season to go.
“We’ve got a chance to make up a lot of points. I touched on it a few weeks ago when we had 18 games left and we’ve started that run really well with two wins and two draws. We just want to try to keep building on that.
“The season doesn’t finish tomorrow. We’ve got 14 games left and a really good chance to put a run together. It’s nice to have fit and available players back and the chance to make changes in a game. For example today both Matty Craig and Owen Bailey were on yellow cards and we had Tommy Rowe and George Broadbent on the bench so it would have been unwise not to use them.
“I’m really pleased with the whole squad today and like I say after every game, it’s on to the next one.”
