Confidence is only growing: McCann

26 February 2024

Grant McCann believes the confidence in the camp is only growing and driving Rovers on to a strong finish to the season.

Rovers stretched their unbeaten run to five matches with a 1-0 triumph over AFC Wimbledon.

And McCann says there is a new found feeling of strength within the group.

“I think we’re playing with confidence and that helps,” he said. “We feel good about ourselves at this moment in time.

“We feel strong in all departments, the bench is strong with players missing out on matchday squads and that helps keep the competition healthy.

“I think people are in good form. Hakeeb [Adelakun] is in tremendous form for example. I was gutted he got the deadleg when he did because he was looking strong and sharp and could have added more to the game.

“I was pleased with the team effort and the ruthlessness in both boxes, defending and attacking. It was really pleasing.”

McCann revealed after the game that he had set his squad the target of producing the best form in Sky Bet League Two in the run to the end of the campaign.

Across the last five matches, only Mansfield Town have been in better form in the division.

"I said a few weeks ago that we want to finish the season as strong as we can," he said. "We had 18 games left. I showed those 18 games to the boys and told them I wanted them to finish top of that 18 game table.

"We've started that quite well with 11 points from the first five games and we just want to continue to build and see where we go."
