Professional development phase Frank Sinclair was encouraged by his side’s performance levels despite falling to a narrow defeat against Rotherham United.

Although Rovers U18s were left frustrated to have lost by the narrowest of margins, the youth team manager felt his side gave a good account of themselves.

Sinclair said: “I was pleased with the performance really. You never want to lose, but the intention of how we wanted to play was carried out well.

“We had the lion’s share of the possession but they got their noses in front and we knew they’d be difficult to break down from that point onwards.

“We did show a lot of patience though and we shifted the ball around quite well but we just lacked that little bit of quality with the final product."

Despite the Millers shape frustrating Rovers throughout the game, Sinclair felt their South Yorkshire rivals gave his side a platform to show their abilities on the ball.

Sinclair added: “They gave us a lot of time on the ball and that’s what we wanted because we’re really trying to encourage the players to play in a possession based team.

“I was pleased with the quality of build up and there was a lot for the players to learn from so now they’ll now know what they need to do to break down a low block like Rotherham’s.

“We do have to give them some credit though for how they slowed the game down and frustrated us because they defended well throughout the game."
