Rovers’ new boy Hakeeb Adelakun admitted the lure of working alongside Grant McCann and Cliff Byrne once again was too good to turn down.
The 27-year-old will spend the rest of the 2023/24 season with Rovers after securing a loan move from Lincoln City.
It reunites the versatile forward with McCann and Byrne, who he previously worked under at Hull City during the Sky Bet League One title winning campaign of 2020/21. He also played alongside Byrne at Scunthorpe United.
“Cliff was at the back end of his career when I first came through,” Adelakun said. “I’ve played alongside him and I know how he works. I’ve known him since the age of 16 and I know he’s a hard nut to crack and he’ll get me going.
“I’ve played under the management staff at Hull as well. It worked well there so I just can’t wait to get going with them again.
“The communication is there. They know how I work and I know how hard they’ll be on me and get me going to get the best out of me, which is what I’m looking for.
“The gaffer knows me and I know he can get the best out of me. It’ll be great to work together again.”
Adelakun - who can play across the front line and in midfield - is excited to be part of a McCann side again, with the emphasis firmly on attacking football.
“A lot of it sounds similar to how it was at Hull and we were flourishing there,” he said. “I know he wants to get the same thing going here.
“From me, it’s a lot of attacking play. Hopefully I can add to the boys and assist goals, score goals and create plenty of chances.
“It’s just about playing as many games as I can - getting a feel back for it, get comfortable and hopefully success comes from there.”
