Rovers sign Hakeeb Adelakun on loan

22 January 2024

Rovers are delighted to confirm the signing of versatile winger Hakeeb Adelakun on loan from Lincoln City.

The 27-year-old will spend the remainder of the 2023/24 season with Rovers, having scored four goals in 25 appearances for Sky Bet League One side Lincoln in the first half of the campaign.

The move sees Adelakun link back up with Grant McCann and Cliff Byrne, who he worked under at Hull City.

“I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get started, get some games under my belt and hopefully get some success,” he said.

“I’m hungrier than ever. I just want to get some games, goals, assists and get back to the attacking football that lets me be creative and express myself.”

London-born Adelakun started in the youth systems of Crystal Palace and West Ham United before joining Scunthorpe United, where he claimed the record of the club’s youngest player on his debut in December 2012 at 16 years and 201 days.

After 169 appearances for Iron, he moved to Championship side Bristol City in 2018. Loans with Rotherham United and Hull followed before he joined Lincoln in the summer of 2021 and spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Gillingham.

Rovers manager McCann said: “We’ve been tracking Haks since I came back to the club. We looked at him in the summer but couldn’t get it done because he was in the plans at Lincoln.

“He played for my Hull team and did really well in League One in the first half of the season before he was recalled by Bristol City.

“He’s a lad with tremendous ability and he can unlock a door.”

Hakeeb will wear the number 47 shirt during his time with Rovers.
