Craig targeting play-off push following Rovers arrival

9 January 2024

Rovers new boy Matthew Craig is targeting a push for the play-offs during his time with the club.

The 20-year-old midfielder has joined on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

While determined to pick up as much game time as possible during his spell, Craig is confident Rovers can climb Sky Bet League Two and challenge for a top seven finish.

He said: “One of my goals is the team’s goal as well - trying to get as close to the play-offs as possible. It’d be great for the club and fans.

“I think being as positive as possible, trying to aim for the play-offs still.

“The gap isn’t really that far so we can make it with the games that we’ve got left this season.

“I think the mindset has to be reaching the play-offs. If we work hard enough and play how I know we can play, it should definitely be achievable.”

The loan marks Craig’s first significant step towards senior football and he insists he is ready for the step-up.

“I’ve been training with the first team quite a bit, under some really good coaches - Conte, Mourinho, Ryan Mason and the new manager as well,” he said. “With the U21s, we’ve got some really good coaches that have really helped me develop.

“It’s all helped me get to the player where I am now where hopefully I can come in and make an impact.

“I’m really excited to be here and show the fans and everyone at the club what I can do.”
