Rovers can confirm the loan of Mo Faal from West Bromwich Albion has ended.
The striker scored nine goals in 33 appearances for Rovers during the first half of the season.
Explaining the situation following the clash with Newport County, manager Grant McCann said: “Mo is going back to West Brom. It happened really quickly.
“I spoke to Mo around the Peterborough game when I thought he was excellent and he scored a good goal. I spoke to him into my office and told him we’d love to keep him for the rest of the season, to keep developing him and working with him. I said we felt we could add a bit more moving and running in behind to his game because we know he’s good at holding it.
“He told me he didn’t want to move. It’d happened to him last January where he went back to West Brom and didn’t play after scoring goals at Fylde.
“On Thursday I got several phone calls from his agent and I was wondering what was going on because I was out with my family. I spoke to Mo on Friday and asked what was happening and he told me he wanted to leave.
“I said fine and I take it you’re going to a League One club. He didn’t answer.
“It’s part and parcel of football and it’s happened all really poorly in my opinion. I told him fine he’s leaving but I didn’t want him to train if his heart wasn’t here with the football club. He just walked out.
“I’m really disappointed with how it’s happened and how he’s been guided - particularly if he’s going to another League Two club.
“For me he needs to be developing himself. I spoke to West Brom and they’re disappointed with it. They were happy for him to stay here.
“But, such is football. We move on. The team is more important than any individual and that’s a fact. There is nobody in the changing room that is bigger than the team.”
